The Airport budget if totally seperate from the "regular" COP budget.

And Phoenix is, as I understand it, purchasing (or has already purchased it) for airport expansion with will include a new, cross runway of some 10,000 feet.

In the link I posted it said something like the airport has already acquired 75% of the land for the new runway.

Greatday, I'm aware that there may be separate funding sources for the airport than the city aviation department. That said, it's good that they got control over the property then, and not now. I'm not sure any funding source would have the money now.

Another victory for future dogs. I hope the greyhound/animal rescues can find homes for the abadoned dogs. A track is closing in Wisconsin as well. I could care less about the scum that work or gamble at those places. I only feel for the dogs.

What??? I love animals. I am scum because I used to go there and bet on the dogs? Greyhound park was well known for taking good care of the dogs, and making sure they were adopted out, unlike most tracks

And those dogs are at their best and happiest running...it is what they were bred for and won't stop even when adopted so hopefully people are aware...

That is true. One of my nursing clients had a retired Greyhound from the track. He did have a big backyard too. Boy could he run. They are also awesome dogs, very friendly and loving. I would never condone abuse of them.

I used to enjoy greyhound racing until doing a little research and discovering that for every dog running round the track there are dozens abandoned and killed. And the official greyhound rehoming charities can only find homes for a small percentage of retired dogs. And yes I'm a hypocrite and eat meat, but once you find these things out it becomes hard to ignore the true cost of an evening of entertainment. I would never go again.

True, if I were a greyhound, I think I would love my days at the track. They need that type of thing to exercise and feel healthy and alive.

As for the abuse, its not legal just because they were racing dogs. Those who are concerned shouldn't crack down on the racetrack but rather the owners that abuse. Plenty of non racing dogs are also abused or left outside neglected day and night, but the race track ones get the attention, so maybe its a good thing that we are paying attention to the racetrack stars.

Once it closes, there won't be a word about animal cruelty, out of sight, out of mind. The worst part is that an operation like that will never open again in these politically correct times, its gone for good, so Phoenix once again lost entertainment in favor of commerce.
