Hello Phoenix Parents:

I am from Baton Rouge, and Basis is starting a new school here in the fall. It will begin as K-4 and grow one grade thereafter. I have two kids I have registered and one got a spot for his grade. The other is 6th on his grade's waitlist.

Here is my question to any parents who have dealt with enrolling at Basis when its primary school first opened: What is the likelihood of my waitlisted kid getting a spot this year?

Thanks!

My kids were in the junior and senior high. They excelled in Basis, but there is a ton of churn & burn from kids who can't hack the workload. Stay on top of it and eventually your kid will get in. At the high school level a lot of kids drop out of Basis because at Basis they are only 15th in their class, but if they transfer to their neighborhood school they almost always become the 1st or 2nd and more scholarship opportunities arise. Also a lot of transfers between junior and senior high because the kid wants to play a sport that Basis doesn't have.

Thanks for the response. I would anticipate that they’d have more openings at the upper grades since many students leave. I also hear that they rarely, if ever, accept students in the upper grades. But there are no upper grades yet and this is the first year, so our case is a bit different.

Since you have one child already enrolled - they give priority to their siblings. My son has been #35 for the past 2 years but now I just looked and he's #17 on waitlist - he's going into Junior year. He was accepted to go from 6th grade but he backed out because the student they assigned him with basically scared the crap out of him and he's regretted that decision since. My son is a math/science geek and being in regular HS with hormones raging and socializing is not his cup of tea - he wants very much to just focus on his studies. So I hope he gets in. I would just be on top of it - and the online application process for you should be identifying your two children so make sure you get the priority for your older one.
