I am wondering if Show Low and that area of Arizona is much cooler than the Phoenix area and a good place to go in the summer to get away from the heat?

ShowLow is a 3 or 4 hour drive from Phoenix. It's a great area to get away from Phoenix in the summer! My preference is to camp in the higher places like between McNary and Vernon. I camped there many years ago and mountain biked there all day. This is about 7500 feet elevation while Showlow is about 5200 feet. While Phoenix is 115 the McNary/Vernon area is in the high 70s! And of course cools off at night! Yes they get the monsoon too. So they could have rain showers just about every day in the summer. It's so gorgeous up there. If I had a N.w. of $5,000,000 I would be in the high country from May to October and Phoenix otherwise.

I just go back from Show Low. We went skiing/snow boarding and rented a house there. It was a great experience and the drive was certainly not bad. It's very scenic and you don't even feel like you are in Arizona. It feels like Colorado. Show Low has nice restaurants now and there is a nice golf course/country club so I could see how it would be fun in the summer too
