My mom is planning on buying a condo in the Phoenix/Mesa area. I will be moving there from Washington after I graduate next year. Keep in mind that I will be only 18 at that time and I am a girl. I will be going to college at one of the community colleges or ASU.
What I would like to know is where a good place is to live in that area that doesn't have HORRIBLE crime.
Also, I'm curious about what gangs are there and where they are (in case anybody knows that info).
I prefer to live in an area not too far from a college and with low..er crime.

Please help me!

No place is completely Crime-free or Gang-free but there are a few areas of Phx. to avoid, like Sunnyslope, Palomino, and sections of South Phx and Maryvale. Those seem to be the scuzzier areas.

Lots of people on here keep saying how bad the West side is, and it isn't perfect but it's not all that bad!!!!!!!!

But let's face it --------
You want a safe area so you're probably going to be paying more.

For an 18 y.o. seeking College, the best advice I can offer is the Mill or Ash sections of Tempe. Not sure how low the Crime rate is but it's close to ASU. You have a lively Downtown district around there too with lots of things to do!!!!!!

Don't know what to tell you about Gangs - I don't get involved in that stuff.

Before you make that purchase decision, decide where you will be going to school. ASU has a campus in Tempe, NW Phoenix, Downtown Phx and Mesa. The community colleges are in various locations through out the Valley.

Once you know where you will be going to school, you can concentrate on that area.
