Hi all, just a question to poise to the Phoenix community: I have a friend looking to move to Phoenix (used to the desert weather) but doesn't have a job lined up. He can jump immediately into retail, service support positions (Exec asst and the like) but I am wary of the potential in getting hired fairly quickly. Craigslist employment ads don't look to encouraging, can anyone give any insight? He has enough cash flow to get a place quickly and can work pretty much anywhere to get his footing. Thanks in advance for your input.

The unemployment rate in Arizona is about the same as the national average. The economy is not good almost everywhere in the USA. I am looking for a job as well. Try indeed.com and careerbuilder.com for additional job listings.

I don't know how the market is for lower level jobs. However - it is likely that if your friend needs to work right away his best bet would be the temp agencies. As I recall Volt and Manpower place folks in hourly positions.

Thanks for your input. He is looking on the lower level for immediacy, but his experience is much higher. We both were somewhat alarmed at seeing a real decline in certain rentals, (which I keep my eye on) which is not uncommon in the summer, but I was unsure of the employment situation. He is coming from Vegas which is in a deep recession for jobs (a very serious situation the media is not looking deep enough into), so the assumption is that Phoenix would have to be better. But assumptions can easily sink you. Is crime still a huge factor there, especially in Mesa?

How are they at helping people who are out of state looking to relocate in that area? Will those temp agencies work with out of state people looking for work?

I don't think temp agencies will work with out of state people. They are temp agencies, after all, not headhunters. They have a resident clientele already that meets their needs, I suspect.
