Does anyone here know how many, and what airframe of Aircraft (Helo's) that are based at Papago Army Airfield? I am currently active duty army, and I am pondering the Idea of going into the AZ Guard to be a pilot. I am trying to tally my chances of actually getting a pilot slot in the Guard.

There are two such facilities, the Army National Guard base at Sky Harbor International Airport (KPHX) has many C-135 type aircraft (military versions of the Boeing 707) that are based over there, and they are far away from passenger terminals. They also do share all the runways with commercial aircraft, including the largest Boeing 747-400.

The other facility, with the name Papago Army Airfield is about 4 miles northeast of KPHX, and I don't believe it's being used for heavy fixed-wing aircraft anymore because of the close proximity to KPHX, I remember at one time it was used for helicopters and smaller military fixed-wing aircraft, but I don't believe that's the case anymore.

Here's a couple of websites with some more information. Hope that helps.
