So I am graduating college in may and have am moving to Phoenix for a Job. I have visited a few times and like the area but when I move I will know absolutely no one. I have an apartment held for me at West Town Court Apartments which is on Virginia Ave. I was just wondering about different places I can go to meet some new people. I am a huge sports fan and like to have a few beers. So I was kind of hoping to get some recommendations on some good sports bars in the area. I also play a lot of basketball, softball, golf and bowl for recreation. I am coming from the midwest where we of course play softball in the summer. I was just wondering is softball played year round in phoenix? Any tip and advice would be highly appreciated.

Welcome! You're coming in the hottest part of the year, but it's beautiful right now. Softball is played year round. There's a WAKA (World Adult Kickball Association) league that might be a fun place to meet people. I like Zipp's for sports bars... totally casual, great specials, and pleasant. And, of course, we have several great pro teams. Good luck!

I know the cities of Glendale and Phoenix have free agent lists you can sign up for softball. There is a nice softball complex in north Glendale called Victory Lane. There seem to be teams always looking for players on any given night. I used to go on Fridays and hang out since I liked playing more ball than I had teams. About half the nights I would paly for a team looking for an extra player.

On another note, not to worry you, but how did you end up picking that apartment complex? It's been a few years since I was in that area, but 83rd and Thomas was not the best neighborhood. I don't mean to discourage or worry you, but it may be worth looking into other areas. Maybe others can chim in with better advice.

And to second what lfflaz said, WAKA has a leage in Tempe with lots of young adults. They were exploring a west valley league at one point. Don't know the status of that now.
