The number 1 reason I am considering a move from Dallas to Chandler/Gilbert?

I just walked outside at 8pm. It's almost exactly the same temp in Dallas and Phoenix, which is a beautiful 83 degrees. I'm outside for 2 minutes when a mosquito buzzes my face. I go inside.

That sums up my summer experiences in Dallas (I swell up when mosquitos bite me and I haven't had good luck with repellents.

I have been looking at houses online in the Gilbert and Chandler areas and am attracted to houses on the small lakes. Are there more mosquitos around the lakes or is the water generally kept moving enough to where they don't get a chance to breed there? How about humidity - noticably higher near the water?

Thanks!

As you alluded to the lakes themselves don't cause mosquitoes as man-made urban lakes aren't a suitable environment.

Mozzie problems around here are more often than not a function of standing water due to a poorly maintained swimming pool, and standing water in areas near irrigation systems. We used to live right up to a lake and had no problems, yet our current townhome (high and dry) does have them showing up regularly on the patio. I've no idea where they come from.

One thing you do get near a lake is more bugs. We had plenty of crickets, roaches, and of course spider webs constantly sprouting up as a result, used to have to clear the sunscreens on the windows of spider webs at least once a month.

Interesting. I wonder why more bugs in general - just a ready water supply?

We live in NC and I miss the no bugs in AZ. I know they are there but man not that much. I think our state bird is a mosquito!
