We are relocating from Washington and am wondering what the consensus is on homes with pools. Is it a bonus or a pain? Does it add resale value or deter? We don't have kids and I am wondering how much it would get used. Any thoughts?

Well, only you know how much it would be used. I've seen a flat 5000.00 added to appraisals for a pool. For resale, some want them, some don't. It requires regular maintenance whether you use it or not, and add the occasional equipment repair cost to the mix, as well. Only you can say whether it would be worth it to you. It seems like people who move here never having had a pool tend to use it less over time, but some continue to use it regularly.

I've lived here for over 50 years, in 2 houses with a pool and 2 without, including the last 25 years; I don't want one now. You can ask all of us anonymous folks what we think, but when it comes right down to it, you will get opinions both ways, and only you can decide whether it is something YOU want. Resale issues should not be your primary concern -- as I said, some want pools, some don't.

It is definitely a personal choice. Pools are a lot of work or money or both. That said, we have one here in Ohio that we only get to use for 4 months each year, and even at that it's worth it to us because we enjoy it. It will be a requirement for our house in Fountain Hills.

If you can afford it, get a pool. They need a lot of maintenance, but you'll regret not having one! I swim 9 months out of the year.

If you are renting while looking make sure you get someplace with a pool. That should help you decide.......otherwise, I vote for pool!

I think our pool was @85(maybe 84) today. It's still a bit chilly for me. Kids love it. I can hang out in the hot tub end all day! Maybe we should invest in a solar heater.?

I really was set on a pool. But, I end up buying a house that didn't have one.

I am not home much and probably would only use the pool on weekends. Sometimes I am way to tired coming home from work or from the gym to even think about swimming.

Factor in repair and maintenance (plaster, pool pumps, chemicals) and higher utilities, it I think I made the right choice.
