I know Ken Rockwell says that if you take off the filter hood, the lens will work on a full-frame, but you'd get soft corners if you shoot wide open. And with my purpose, I really don't think I'll ever need anything more than a D300, so no full-frame for me, ever!
You could always buy a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 for your Nikon (~$499.00 at B&H), or a Tokina 12-24 f/4 (~$499.00 at B&H). But the first is a lot faster and better suited for low light than the f/4 version. The 11-16 is supposed to be an outstanding lens that gives a run for the money to both Nikon and Canon super-wide lenses. I will be buying it for my Canon in the near future. It's quite popular with a Canon mount, so much that Both B&H and Adorama are out os stock, but it's available for Nikon. With such a lens you would have to get a lot closer to the subject, and the lens barrel and hood will interfere with the built-in flash (project a shadow in lower half and center if the frame), so you must use an external flash. However, with this lens you can take shots of a group of people inside a small room, or just pictures of the room itself.

i have a sigma 10-20mm but now with me thinking of getting a full frame d700 im sorry i didnt get a full frame compatable lens instead..

same story with my beloved 17-55mm f2.8 nikon lens..ill be selling that too since its dx only.

any lenses ill buy now are full frame, just bought the full frame nikon 105mm vr macro. i have the tamron 90mm macro so marilyn will use that on her d80..

i strongly recommend at this point anyone who loves photography and thinks they may upgrade in the future to think about staying away from dx lenses at this point if you can afford the full frame version.

i know im kicking myself for being short sighted now and choosing to save a few bucksnot thinking i would ever consider a full frame camera and now im regretting it and spending even more.

technology trickling down will leave us eventually with very few choices i think in non full frame cameras eventually.

That's the one I have, it was $650 around a month ago. They were really hard to come by, sold out within days of being listed! It's by far my favorite lens. I suddenly love taking pictures of landscapes, intersections and random rooms!

You are right, The Tokina 11-16 for Nikon costs around $599.00, not $499.00 as I indicated. I assume you got one for Canon?

I got the Nikon one, I have a D90. Reason I paid so much was because they only had 2 left and they jacked up the price. It was $549, then $599 and when I finally decided I want one, it was $649. Now, they are out of stock again so I'm glad I at least got it. I don't feel bad paying that, since my friend bought one in February, and just now switched to full-frame. She sold her Tokina for $620 on Ebay 2 days ago, so the resale value is pretty high on these things!

ETA: Looks like both B&H and Adorama are back in stock for $599, figures! I got mine through Amazon.
