you really need a pixel editor and not just a photo editor to really do it right.
a pixel editor is like photoshop or elements.. what i do is select a color for a background, then outline the image of what i want to place in a different background using the elements magic extractor tool.
i then drop that extracted image on the new background...
photo editors and not pixel editors like capture nx2 dont work reliably as changing colors in spots merely tries to lay the new color over the old and replace it that way ..alot of times you just get an ugly blend of colors instead of total replacement like a pixel editor. usually black is a little easier to do with these photo editors.
the pixel editors can be any color you like as they totaly replace the pixel thats there instead of re-coloring it.
im still learning to extract and change the background and have attemped a few.
Honestly, I think it looks really fake when most people do it. Even the true black seamless paper doesn't shoot THAT black. Here are two pictures. The one with the black background is computer generated (excuse his excitement). The one with the blue one is seamless paper. Not the greatest pic, but the blue shoots and looks much more real than the computer generated black ever will. Then again, I'm not one for fake looking photos, which seem to be the trend these days!
That second shot is awesome. I am wondering a bit how it would look if his front paws were included in the shot.
I made the huge mistake of buying the 50mm, 1.8. I love this lens outside, and use it all the time, but it's not good indoors in my situation. My place is so tiny that I can never set up the background stand and seamless with enough room to include his body. I really should have gone with the 35mm, 1.8. I put plexi glass for him to stand on, and his reflection would have been awesome if I was able to get his entire body. I either need a new lens or move to a bigger place with more natural light!
I tossed that idea around. But until I know what every single button on my D90 does, I really shouldn't upgrade. I want to learn this camera in and out. And, my new favorite lens (Tokina 11-16mm, f2.8) would not work on a full-frame and I just bought it less than a month ago! I know Ken Rockwell says that if you take off the filter hood, the lens will work on a full-frame, but you'd get soft corners if you shoot wide open. And with my purpose, I really don't think I'll ever need anything more than a D300, so no full-frame for me, ever!
Usually using a dx lens on full frame its not just dark corners but since your only utilizing the center portion of your sensor you will get only about 6 meg out of a 12 -14 meg camera.
