I recently upgraded my regular camera body from a (Nikon) D700 to a D3s. My problem now is that my CS4 version cannot read the RAW files from the D3s.
I was looking into buying CS5 before already (now I'm certain I will), but a collegue of mine informed me that if you own a previous version (or three generations back, though this will change come CS6) you can upgrade without paying the full price.

But, after trying to figure out exactly how on Adobe's website (my collegue went on holiday vacation so I can't ask him now), I'm lost.

Does anyone know how to upgrade from CS4 to CS5 in detail?

You could try updating Camera RAW. Adobe updates that quite often, and it may fix your issue. Oh, and it's free.

If you go the upgrade way, it's really just a new install, it's placed in a new folder.

Or during purchase, the options are on the right hand side. Choose the version you want by clicking the buy button. This will change the box and have some drop downs to choose upgrade and the version you already own. Then just add to cart and follow the prompts.

Try installing Adobe Camera Raw 5.6 to your CS4 version first to see if that will handle the D3S RAW files, before spending the $ on CS5 or CS6.

If the OP updates CS4, more than likely Camera Raw and everything else will be updated with the latest features just below CS5. On my Macs all I do is to launch CS5, and then select, "Look For Updates," which is found somewhere in the main menu. Then PhotoShop looks for updates at Adobe.com, and lets me know if there are updates available, with the choice to download and install them.

I've tried to update, but it keeps getting stuck and won't complete it. I've even tried it manually, and it still won't work. I'll try it again though.

Nephler, if I dowload CS5 directly from the website, can I still get the CD in the mail later on? Or can I simply burn it to a CD (I prefere to have something "solid" in case my computer breaks down)?

Thanks for the answers

Yes Sweden, you can burn the downloaded file to disc.
