I don't understand why some cameras - most of them - don't come with a bulb setting?
I would choose a camera with a bulb setting over all the other cameras without it!
I used to make do with Polaroid cameras by using a black card and tape over the light sensor.....but I just don't enjoy my digital cameras without the bulb feature. I don't love those cameras like I loved my other cameras.
I was able to do magic with those cameras.

I would be surprised if any of the interchangeable lens cameras didn't come with the bulb setting. Both of mine have it: Sony SLT-A55 and Sony NEX-3. Some cameras (Sony NEX-5 and above, for example) even have time lapse trigger.

That's very interesting and something that I didn't know. Makes me want to start thinking about a new camera, for sure!
I wonder if there is a reason why a bulb setting isn't on all cameras, including my digital viewfinder cameras?
I don't know if you folks here in this forum think that what I'm saying is nutty () or not, but it's something that has bothered me for all these years.

Even my inexpensive Nikon D3100 does Bulb setting. All I have to do is set my camera to manual mode. Then the shutter speed will go to bulb. Good luck with light painting and star trails, sounds fun!

Thanks My Canon A590is only allows me to have the shutter open for 15 seconds at the longest. I was just checking it out on the camera and in the online manual. Darn.
Fastest shutter speed is 1/2000.
I've been hoodwinked!
Light painting and star trails is exactly what I want to be doing!

Point-N-shoot cameras usually don't have a bulb setting, but SLR cameras do.

My Olympus XZ-1 is a P&S and has a bulb setting.

Maybe I was wrong, then? I was not aware of a bulb setting on such cameras.

Im not sure most of the point n shoots have an option for an external trigger. The ones that do will most likely have a bulb setting.

Just about every DSLR will have that setting in the manual settings.

The Fuji X10 only goes to 30 seconds. It uses a traditional style cable release, but as far as I know there's no bulb mode. Not much of an issue for me personally, but it would be nice to have just in case. My biggest complaint about many new cameras is the lack of a built-in optical viewfinder. In fact that's one of the main reasons I chose the X10 over several others (including several mirroless cameras).
