I am sitting here at my desk and I suddenly hear every squirrel in the neighborhood chattering & making the sounds they usually make when my dog is on the prowl. The dog in question is at my feet, so I go to investigate and this is what I found

Does anybody know what this squirrel eating monster is? Besides huge?

I have no idea what it is? I didn't even know birds ate squirrels.

My first thought since you're in FL is an osprey but an osprey taking a squirrel would be incredibly unusual. My 2nd thought would be an almost mature bald eagle. However, again, a bald eagle taking a squirrel would be almost as unusual as an osprey. That and it looks a little small actually to be even an immature bald eagle.

I was wondering if it might be a young eagle. This thing is bigger than it looks in the pictures. Whatever it is it is quite magestic and was unbothered by me bing out there.

Looks like a Hawk to me. And yes, a mature Hawk can and will, at times, eat rabbits and squirrels.

What type of hawk has that much white on the head? Not saying you're wrong but I've not seen on that looks like that myself. I'm just curious what species of hawk it might be.

Send it to me, I need something to eat all these damn squirrels around my house. Darn things eat the fruit off my trees, chew on my soffits, and generally are a freakin' pain in the rear.

You tell that raptor that I'd be glad to have him set up shop in my back yard.

LOL! I will send you my cat and my dog as well, if you would like to borrow them. They are both fierce squirrel hunters!
