I am amazed at the barn in the picture on page 2. I have never seen one this tall before. What type of barn is it and what is it used for? It is a beautiful barn.

Must be some sort of silo. The writing on the side says that it's a grain company.

My picture is so dark that I can't see any writing on the side. My husband said it must be some sort of silo to, but its builted out of wood and I thought silos were metal or concret of some sort.

Maybe it's really old, or the owner was being economical by building it him/herself or by using cheaper materials

Verseau, those shots of NH are lovely! You made me homesick. (But only because summer is coming!). Winter here in NC has been heavenly.

That tall building is a Grain Elevator. Although the structure on the outside is wood, inside are usually metal bens. Tall cylindrical. Auguers to move the grain up to the top and dump it in. Farmers drop off grain here and sell it to the elevator operator. Or, if they're a big enough farm, they simply drop off here and ship to a buyer elsewhere. That building usually sets next to a railroad track. That's what is used for shipping.

There's a few left up in this country. Even a few just like in the picture, that are still operational. But mostly now, it's large METAL graineries.

What you see in the picture is probably 1920 or newer.
