I had all but given up on being able to see some beluga whales this year. Having only been in Alaska 6 months at the time, which was september. I had already photographed all of alaskas big 5, bears, wolfs, mooses, elk, dulls and then some. Then one day I was on Turnagain Arm and noticed what I thought was waves with white caps, but to my glory and surprise it was a big pod of beluga. It was so amazing to see and hear these things, and to see them in such a big pod. Here is some pictures, the sun was not in the best place for taking pictures on water and the water in turnagain is always clay like in color. I'd love to see some of everyone elses pictures too.
Great pics, y'all. Mine are not so wonderful--but the experience of seeing them was pretty cool.
This first one is Elwood "swimming with the dolphins" in the Gulf.
The next one my husband took in the Atlantic here last weekend, it was a pair. They knew they were whales but were unsure what kind--however, right whales had been sighted there a few days before.
Finback whales between Eastport Maine and Campobello Island N.B. taken from the Ada C. Lore schooner.
