Took these two somewhere in North Pole. Used a Canon XT, a Tokina lens, and a Hoya CPL.
Earlier in the afternoon

Late afternoon, golden sun rays all around

RayinAK,
I just wanted to take a minute and compliment your awesome photos. Your work always impresses me. You really know how to take a good picture.

I appreciate it, JoshB.

I just keep on going back to the same place until the light conditions are right. For example, in the photos above sunlight was on my back illuminating the entire subject, and the clouds were nice and clean on a blue sky. I used a circular polarizer on the lens to block some of the excess light being reflected toward the lens (from approximately the top half of the frame). In turn, the sky turns bluer, the clouds become clearer, and and more of the scene is captured by the camera. It's much like the camera's sensor seeing farther and clearer into the scene.

Also, skies like those during the golden sun rays of the early morning and late afternoons are quite helpful. Midday light is quite harsh, and most times not the best for landscapes.
