Our latest assignment will involve anything that has been abandoned. The more rustic, the older it is, the better. If you know the history, even better!
The rules:
- No closing date.
- Pictures must be taken on or after the assignment has been posted.
- Maximum two posts allowed. However, each posting could have multiple pictures.
- Image size should be limited to 800 px wide (portrait mode: 500 px wide).
And please use ~Assignment Discussions~ to discuss assignments in general, to ask questions, share experiences.
So I got a little bored this afternoon and figured I could fashion myself a little studio using printer paper and scotch tape. It took me nearly an hour in Photoshop to edit out the page edges. I don't know if the results were worth it, but it was a fun little experiment. Of course, my wife thinks I'm crazy. (Click for the larger version on my Flickr page.)
And here's the source image:
Edit: Oh, and the backstory... this is my first stuffed animal that was given to me when I was born, nearly 30 years ago. He's not necessarily abandoned, but he's been stored in a closet long enough that he might as well be.
Here're a couple I'd been wanting to photograph for a few days, waiting for weather to turn around. Finally gave up at the very first glimpse of blue skies earlier this afternoon, not the best time for best IR effects but I'm glad to have went for it as the cloud cover is back now.
The following isn't exactly "abandoned", just a part of the town's historical sites (Grapevine, TX)
Equipment: Sony DSC-F828
Settings: NightShot Mode, f/2.0, 1/15s, Hand held, Tiffen IR Filter, Neutral Density Filters (NDX8, NDX2), Circular Polarizer (not exactly for intended purpose, just to help cut light further).
PS. Another photograph, almost identical to the second image was also taken in color and I saved a copy in b/w too. Both attached below for comparison.

Thanks for the three comparisons. I believe I prefer the IR version the most.
