Hi everybody!
I am trying to find a lens to suprise my husband for his birthday but am having trouble finding one. I knew my city-data friends would know where to look. Can you all direct me to a reputable place to buy a Minolta 70-210mm f/4 lens for Digi minolta Sony beercan? Thank you so much! I want to suprise him and I don't want to ask him where to search! Thanks in advance!
Thank you both! I started looking at the link you sent Highland Lady and I think that is a different lens, but THANK YOU for the site. He is so excited about the camera he is getting and keeps going on and on about this specific lens. Apparently its become kind of a "cult classic" and is much harder to find than I thought it would be. He is also usually HARD to buy for, but I know this is something he would love! Thank you all so much! I just love city-data people!
The lens in the B&H link is NOT a "Beercan" lens. The "Beercan" is an auto focus lens (70-210mm) with a constant maximum aperture of f4. The one in the link is a manual focus lens with a variable maximum aperture of f4.5 to f5.6. DON'T buy him that one!
The so-called Beercan has been discontinued since the late 80s, so you should be looking for used lenses. Ebay is a good place to look, or for a little more safety in your buying, check out KEH Camera (used camera dealer) or the B&H used department. Both have a very good reputation. I've bought dozens of lenses from B&H (new) and a couple used ones from KEH and never been disappointed. Unfortunately, I don't see either of them listing that particular lens now.
Ebay does have a few listed. Here's a couple to get you started: Beercan1 Beercan2
Note: I know nothing about the sellers or the lenses themselves.
Just be sure when you're looking that the lens is listed as Minolta or Maxxum (or both), auto focus (AF) and that it has f4, f/4 or 1:4 listed as the maximum aperture. Some are f4.5 or f4.5-5.6. Those are not "Beercans".
Thank you guys all so much! Highland Lady thank you for the information anyways, all of it is helping me on this crazy journey. This is what happens when someone who knows very little tries to buy a lens. I am getting a wonderful education! I may have to borrow his camera now...tee hee hee! Thanks everyone!
B&H Photo Video is a very reputable company too. I buy a lot of my camera equipment from them.
Same goes for me.
