So I have these copies that were taken by a "pro"....basically it was a cruise line.
We spent $ on them, but didn't get 5x7 or multiples of 8x10.
I wanted to do this now, but heard some places may not do it because of the copyright.
Any truth?
I looked on the photo and the only copyright is in a section of white at the bottom or side of the pics and also has a bar code. I can easily crop the pic with a paper cutter at work if I need to.
Can someone recommend a good place to get quality copies?
Read Kinko's will not do it. How about Walmart? Walgreens?
The legal answer is you need permission from the owner of the copyright. Some of the larger chains (Walmart, etc) generally honor the copyright and some even will question a professional looking photo that has been cropped...

Dave is right. Heck, I've even had some photos I shot myself questioned when I went to have prints made, because apparently they looked too professional. Unfortunately, that's not true of all my photos.

I once had to sign a waiver at a Wolf camera stating I was the photographer before they would print my photos! I felt like a freaking rock star.
Why don't you scan it and print it at home?? I think it's legal to do that cause you won't be selling it. Legally anyone you send it to will be "selling" the print to you and the pic is copyrighted. Even if it doesn't say on it, they still own the pic and could pursue something "if" they found out. Anyway, just a thought.
Call that cruise line and find out who they use as a photographer, may be they can help in that area. You will then contact the photographer for a copyright release. Printing at home is another option, and probably the best one.

The photographers are the same ppl who help with whatever is needed. Not sure they've taken classes. Impossible to track down these ppl.....not even going to try.
I see no one here can help me, other than the option of printing from home...which would require me to purchase a quality printer, inks and paper.
Sorry to you pros that feel violated, but it is what it is....I need some copies.
I feel since I purchased the pics, I have the rights to the photos...apparently NOT.
