Hey all I'm thinking about changing gyms. The gym I have now is decent enough, but it's about 15-20 minute drive from my house and it's pretty bare bones... (no classes). I currently go to fitness 19, and it's really really cheap... Is there anything else that is comparable closer to the city that might have classes... I know I"m asking a lot ha ha. I don't mind paying a bit extra, but I don't want to look at Bally's prices. I"d love to do LA Fitness but that's even further away from my house... I don't mind a smaller gym if it's reasonable priced.

Gold's downtown is $29/mo, and supposedly drops to $19/mo after you've been a member for a year. Parking in the attached garage is included after 5pm and on weekends, I believe.

Is Gold's really that cheap? Is it shady? Is it decent inside? Do you know what their like initical fee is? Do you have to sign a big contract?

Hmmm I'll check out amerifit, might be a bit too far... Century 3 is further then i go now, but thanks for the rec.

Don't know if this is of interest to anyone, but Sportsclub is supposedly scouring the area for future expansion....but may not happen until after the economy recovers...

If this happens it may get me to sign up with NYSC again for the convenience of having Sports club in all the east coast cities that I'm regularly in..

Gold's typically has a ~$79 initiation fee that they'll drop on occasion when doing membership drives. I would call for the latest details as I haven't checked in a few months.

Their general membership contract is for 1 year, I believe. I think things go month-to-month after that.

Planet Fitness just opened up in Century Square (the shopping center in front of Wal Mart, West Mifflin/C3 area). Never been in, but it looks pretty nice and only $10 a month with $1 initiation fee. There are two offers they are running right now.
