Another pretty serious incident just occurred at the mall the other day, a store clerk beaten by a shoplifter. The worst part about it is that no one tried to help the girl, who's screaming while being beaten and kicked. Video is pretty graphic.

I agree. The Gallery I and II in Philadelphia is a good example. Once JC Penney moved out years ago and then Strawbridge & Clothier closed, it started to deteriorate. This was before the age of internet/online shopping.

Now it's pretty much a hangout for truant school kids on the weekdays. Most of the better stores have left. The only thing that saves the Galleries from completely going under is that fact that it is connected to Market East where the commuter rail lines run........and the food court.

It doesn't help that, much like Monroeville Mall, there have been several instances of people getting beat up.

As for that girl getting beat up and no one helping, I bet there were plenty taking pictures with the cell phones.

Everyone thinks they would jump in, but in reality most people would not actually interfere. See the Bystander effect.

And just to be clear, allow me to repeat myself: scum.
