I'm assuming you're a Brit (if you're not then this is a weird question).

Never had anyone talk ill of the English ever here in Pittsburgh. At worst you'll have a yinzer who will think that the accent is "fancy".

Just thinking out loud here. I'd say attitudes would be:
1/3 would be neutral
1/3 would give you instant credibility
1/3 would assume you are a snob

In Pittsburgh, as in most of the US, the English are almost universally abhorred due to their imposition of the 1765 Stamp Act. Most visitors who speak too loudly with English accents most often find themselves pelted with Lipton teabags.

It's cool if you're from England and have an English accent. What I find strange is when foreigners (or Americans for that matter) speak with one. I mean, not that it's not a legitimate form of English, but at least in Germany, most people learn British English despite it seeming, to me, mostly illogical and quite silly. (see: Nothing For Ungood » Blog Archive » Germans intentionally learn the wrong kind of English (http://nothingforungood.com/2008/07/18/germans-intentionally-learn-the-wrong-kind-of-english/ - broken link))

Reality TV must believe they can't be successful unless they have foreigners talking with what sounds like a mouth full of marbles. America's Got Talent has no judge born in America although Howie Mandel speaks English well. English accents are a major turnoff.

Strangely you will be seen as somewhat exotic. This definitely is not a NYLon sort of town.

I love a British accent. And if the OP is a 20-something guy, all the drunk chicks on the South Side will think his accent is "sooooo cuuuute!"
