Yes, yes....great stuff, probably our favorite in the area along with Oishii Bento. Very reasonable and very tasty. We'd be over there more often if it weren't on the other end of town.

Also, I've heard good things from friends about Kasai which just opened in downtown Carnegie.

In general, Pittsburgh sushi chefs don't do rice well, at least if you compare it with Japanese sushi. And please stop serving 'white tuna' (what the hell is that?), and fake crab sticks. Yikes.

Fukuda was good, unless you had to listen to the chef complain about living in Pittsburgh, and until that chef left. Now Fukuda is no more.

Kiku has good fish & rice, I don't care for the decor or atmosphere there, but the food is authentic for Pittsburgh.

I feel Umi is overrated. Tiny fish, the rice isn't prepared well. Too pricey. I'd rather skip it and make a trip to NYC.

I really want to try Chaya.

Isn't "white tuna" usually escolar (which causes, um, digestive distress in many people)?

Yes, it can cause distress if you eat more than a few pieces. I lived for years in Japan and NEVER EVER saw white tuna. I won't eat it and will ask for a substitute. Which means a crab stick... so I ask them to keep those too.

I really like Chaya. And I would like immitation crab sticks to be shot into the center of the sun. If I am paying sushi prices that had better be actual real fish in there and not the Chicken McNugget of the seafood world.

I'm thrilled to hear that others feel as I do...

Chaya's basic rolls are pretty good indeed. Their fancier, more expensive rolls aren't as good as many in town though. It's our local Japanese. I like it a lot.

How is their Sashimi and Nigiri? This is what we like. I don't eat Maki rolls as often, though they are yummy too.

Sake in the Southside Works is pretty good IMO, definitely better than Nakama and PAFC.

This is fascinating. 'White tuna' is my favorite and, to my knowledge, I haven't run into any troubles eating it. I had no idea it wasn't tuna.
