here's a fun challenge for grid lovers.

A friend says "meet me at the corner of 60th and 60th in Queens, NY".

Is this person really a friend and not trying to avoid you?

How many 60th and 60th's are there?

This thread is cracking me up! I spent five years during college and a couple of years after living in the city (N Oakland, Shadyside) and drove around in my old beater all over the place. It was tough learning the routes (oh, the glorious days before GPS), mostly without a map.

The things I learned were that the Belts were my friends (mostly the Blue and Orange) and could lead me to outlying areas via the circuitous routes without getting hopelessly lost. The other main lesson was to always pay attention to where your next turn was because there is no such thing as just turning around in Pittsburgh. It could be miles before you could turn, and there was never a guarantee of finding an easy way to get back to where you came from. After everything, though, it's a huge sense of accomplishment to conquer driving routes in the 'Burgh, and it definitely helped when I moved to Atlanta - they have many of the same road characteristics (meandering, changing names on a whim, etc).

Gotta say, I loved Joncaire/Boundary St! It was like a secret short-cut that most (sane) drivers avoided, but was so quick and fun to drive.

From where to where does that take you? I know where you mean, but I used to go there via S. Bouquet, and then back out on S. Bouquet.

It cuts through the hollow and comes out at Neville, so made it quick to get from my BFF's apt on S Oakland to mine on Centre. Plus, you could catch some serious air on the bumps and it was rarely patrolled by Pittsburgh's finest.

Yep. They have like three 60ths in one direction and another three 60ths in the other direction --crazy.
