But no, not really something a visitor or newbie MUST ride for any particular reason. The more interesting ride-on device IMO for the sightseer is one (or both) of the two inclines that go up Mt Washington.
it was my first trip to pitt, what are you trying to say? Actually, I did just that. After I ate a late lunch, I popped into Aldo coffee. It was a cold, gray day in May, I had skipped the incline for the day hoping for better weather. anyway, such a trip might make sense for the OP.
As for steelers games and the casino, if I were staying at, say, the doubletree, I might take the T to the casino, especially if it's cool and wet. the two things that would make it the most useful, in partciular order, are a connection to Oakland so one could see the sites there, and a connection to the airport. I put it in this order because a nice bus (with a luggage rack and express service) is probably just fine if it takes me to the hotel. once in the hotel, it's the systems functionality that allows me to get around without a car or not. that said, the ad I saw for the 88 in the city paper is pretty cool. they should put that in tourist literature, if they don't already. one thing about rail maps is they are pretty easy to use, as a visitor, buses are harder to understand where they go, where you are supposed to get off, etc.

As I have suggested before, I think we should put together a simplified visitor's map with just a few key bus routes on it. If we ever get around to doing Rapid Bus, just those plus the main Busway routes and the T should do it.

Oh, too funny! So essentially I am contradicting myself. You did what I suggested was a great use, and then I turned around and said well, a visitor doesn't really have a huge draw to the T. Still it's pretty much true. I wouldn't suggest a weekend visitor go out to Mt Lebo on the T, unless they were scouting for places they wanted to move to or something.

Also I was focused more on the is there any must-see aspect of it, which there really isn't. But there's no denying that Il Pizzaiolo is an interesting destination to try a real Neapolitan-style pizza. (Aldo Coffee is great, but for that there are additional equal destinations within the city like 21st Street, Tazza D'Oro, Voluto, etc.)

you might be able to fund it through contirbutions. For example, the map includes places like the church brew works so people know where things are they might help pay for it since they are also benefitting. it wouldn't hurt to at least have a mobile app or pdf map.

greg-I'm a pizza guy so I had to try, I think they are certified by the neapolitan pizza mafia, I mean board. I think the OP wasn't just a weekend visitor; nonetheless, for a small subset of people that trip might be worth it (that subset happens to include me, I travel on my stomach). still, the main thing is oakland...though church brew works was pretty high on my list. how to get to penn brewery from downtown would have helped as well. the bus is easier than hailing a cab sadly.

theyd better leave early enough to make it by, oh, halftime. the T is like the opposite of the move "Speed". seems it will blow up if it goes any faster. its irritatingly slow.
