Default Nice Job ! More than the mayor will ever do

Thanks for the photo excursion through what I would call a ' little know section' of the city. Your expose of the neighborhood with commentary is more than anything the city has done in public. I keep being reminded that with such a bunch of clueless leaders on Grant Street such things as 'preservation' 'neighborhood redevelopment' and ' revitalization' are actions that have and will continue to come to Pittsburgh very very slowly and will be a result mainly of the private sector. If we could only have a creative urban smarts mayor with a hungry forward moving council.

Why is it not marketed? The URA's website (buyintheburgh.com) does not list any buildings in the Bluff, however there are some vacant lots.

I actually have no idea how they choose the sites to list on that website, but I think a lot of properties are put into the "not ready for sale" category, and yet can be purchased.

Woah, I had no clue this site existed!

It's kind of neat seeing plots of land in the city for < $1,000...My first thought is just to mindlessly buy buy buy, but I'm sure there's all sorts of liability issues with buying a tiny plot of land you just want to use as a garden or something, without it being adjacent to property you already own.

EDIT: This one is only valued at $100? Even considering that it's a 340 square foot, sloped lot in Hays, that is still hard to believe.

What can you do with a 340sqft lot other than build a garage on it? With some difficulty at that seeing how it's sloped? About the only use I can see for a 340sqft sloped lot is to hope one of the adjoining property owners would buy it just to add a little bit of space to his yard.

At any rate it is astonishing that the revitalization wave has passed up the one strip of land that connects the city's two major employment nodes and abuts a decent-sized university to boot. There has to be some reason why that place is seriously inert.

It really is a puzzle. As far as I can tell, the basic problem is that it is highly disinvested, but also isn't a brownfield site, so no developer has come up with a way of doing projects that wouldn't seem isolated.

I've lived in East Deutschtown for more than two years now, and have been perfectly happy with it! The closer you get to the Penn Brewery, the better shape the housing tends to be in, but there are plenty of prospects for renovation closer to the highway.

The sad truth is that the buildings that come down in the area, it's often the best thing for it. One came down a few weeks ago near my house and it's being turned into a nice yard for the adjacent one.
