My family and I will be moving from Colorado to Pittsburgh. I need some advise on what neighborhoods to move to. I am looking for somewhat of a newer neighborhood built between the 1980's-present, good schools, affordable( we will be renting for about a year), not country, but not downtown. nice yard and garage. we have family in connelsville so we would like the travel time to be any where from 20-45 min. looking for neighborhoods with homes that are not to where I can reach my hand out the window and touch my neighbors house. kid and dog friendly. middle income. not just one race, but diverse. grocery stores and mall within 20min drive or less.

Murraysville may be a good fit. It's the only thing that fits your description and still is within 45 minutes of Connelsville. (which is quite far from downtown Pittsburgh).

It's not terribly diverse though (95% white)

If you want something more integrated you could look closer to Monroeville (85% white) or Penn Hills (75% white) but those are further from Connelsville.

Good luck. Most Pittsburgh suburbs were built in the 50's. There are a few new developments though, mainly centered around the 79 north corridor north of the city. Also, check out Pine, Moon, Murrysville and Plum.

Pittsburgh suburbs are pretty much 100% white and there are no exceptions unless they are ghetto hell holes.

I think Murrysville, Plum or the nice areas of Monroeville are your best bets.

Penn Hills is half nice and half dump. The schools are horrific.

Speaking of '50s suburbs and Monroeville, does anyone know of a suburb near the Parkway somewhere between Edgewood and Monroeville that could be described as "Mid Century Modern"? I used to read some guy's blog who lives there, but I can't remember his name or his blog, or anything other than that he lived in a MCM suburb close to the parkway on the way to Monroeville. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Thanks.

I'd describe Churchill as MCM.

I don't know what MCM is. Possibly Wilkins Township.

Mid Century Modern. Here's a particularly nice example, in Atlanta. I suppose in Pgh, they'd be brick houses, but brick can work.

Hah. I never thought of Churchill. A friend's aunt and uncle lived there in the '70s in a faux-French chateau, in a neighborhood filled with faux-European antiquity style houses, anything but modern, so Churchill didn't occur to me.

EDIT: Oh, yeah: this is it. http://www.crystalsprings.org/property/index.cfm?fuseaction=propertymls&MLS=806615&CFID=4 571897&CFTOKEN=32034768 (broken link)

And here's a really nice one, in Pt. Breeze (almost 4x as much as the one in Churchill, but it's got a really nice interior) http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...6_M43438-30864
