The Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad buildings of 1879 were just demolished in McKees Rocks. These were significant buildings, if you have never seen them. What a loss. Read more and see a picture at the link below. Thank god I took some photographs last fall.

Focus on renewal

Apparently, the demolition of these buildings didn't even make news. I guess Pittsburghers want to forget that their city once was an industrial powerhouse.

Yeah it is a shame that the building doesn't seem to be able to fit in with the new development plans; the upside to this is Mr Vrcek has a great interest in and is working hard to garner support from area leaders, businesses and the DEP to revitalize McKees Rocks.

Sometimes you have to let go of the old to make room for the new.

People in this city don't seem to mind the idea that Pittsburgh has a newer, more modern identity i/o looking to its' past industrial roots. Maybe its the whole soot and grime thing as the city once was?
Whatever the reason, I've never seen any semblence of sentimental longing from anyone I know.

I don't think folks are ashamed of our past, but there tends to be some frustration with people who try to act like the mills are still here belching smoke and fire. I remember people complaining because a film crew that was here for a Monday night football game, went and shot footage at a mill, but neglected to mention that such places were rare around here now, thus giving the impression that nothing had changed around here. This is frustrating to people who want the rest of the country to have an accurate idea of what Pittsburgh currently is.
