Safe Bets - Main Feature - Pittsburgh City Paper

Not too too many chain places (though I guess they can be best for some people. Though, Best Movie Theater is the Waterfront? eh.) That Primanti's was 2nd for Best Restaurant for Locavores makes me think people don't know what "locavore" means.

Do you know of a better theater? I've only been to the AMC/Loews Theater at the Waterfront, and so far I really loved my experience there. The Manor Theater along Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill looked promising.

Primanti's does claim to source its food from local vendors, and makes it own fries, slaw, and so on.

I'm not saying that necessarily counts, but I assume (charitably) that is what people had in mind.

The Waterfront AMC is a big honking shopping center megaplex. It is what it is. The Manor shows more independent film, but it's not a "nice" theater, per se. My personal top three would be Regent Square/Oaks/SSW for the shopping center megaplex vote.

The reason for huge chains is because they have the numbers to lean the voting their way. The City Paper isn't really very good at the "best of" crap. It is pretty much a voting popularity contest and sort of embarrassing for those of us that really enjoy food.

That Gullifty's won for Best Desserts (again) makes me think people don't know what "dessert" means.

I'm confused when people voted JoBeth Booksellers as the second best local bookstore. That was a national chain!

I'd have to give my vote to the new multiplex at Settlers Ridge.

Seeing all those crappy mutiplexes as recommendations for best theaters really makes me miss the Hollywood Theater in Dormont.
