My friends and I are always on the hunt for new and cool places to grab a drink after work. What are your favorites? (And any places with great happy hour specials, like Kaya's 1/2 off all drinks, are good to know about.)

I heard that Mad Mex on Bates Street has a good Happy Hour. Also, Walnut Grove in Fox Chapel has some nice specials too.

Hardly a Yuppie. It is just right down the road. I just drink my beer and ignore the poseurs.

I am lost here. I have been to Mad Mex on Bates and think it is pretty cool and never thought of it as a chain, but I have been going there long before there was another location. If you sit at the bar and ask for chips and salsa, they never charge you. The crowd is pretty eclectic with students and professors as well as goofy people like myself. I am not big on Walnut Grove. That is a little too much like a Chili's or Damons feel. Not my cup of tea. If you around Walnut Grove, you might want to stop by Freeport Pizza instead. It is kind of cool little place.

I like Mad Mex myself. $3 little house margaritas; it's actually cheaper to get two of those than to get one "Big Azz". And you get the drink prices even if you decide to have dinner at a regular table not at the bar. Last time we went (Cranberry, not Bates, but it's the same at all of them except the hours) for dinner our server even swung by around 5 minutes til 7:00 to make sure we didn't want to order one more drink before happy hour ended. They also have half-price drafts with lots on tap, but I don't really like beer. And I think half price wings.

BTW, it's the same at Kaya. If you go there for dinner (not at bar) during happy hour you still get the half price drinks. Very cool.

The Church has half price appetizers at happy hour, from what I remember, but I think you pay full price for the beer.

Mad Mex was a big favorite of mine back in my student years.

The Sharp Edge in Downtown also has half-priced Belgians.

You can't beat Mad Mex for happy hour. They have great micro beers (they list them on their website for each locations) and 1/2 off appetizers. Awesomeness.

Also, Sharp Edge's prices are almost tolerable during happy hour.
