If I were to descibe the difference in the subdivisions of Fox Chapel versus O'Hara, I would say natural woodlands. For the most part, when a street with a cul de sac is planned and developed in O'Hara, most of the trees and vegetation are cleared and the owners plant their own shrubs and trees along the borders for privacy, whereas in many Fox Chapel subdivisions, the natural woodlands are left between many properties. There are exceptions, of course, but just an observation that I have seen over the years.

Example: Colquitt Drive in O'Hara

For the record, these roads are about a quarter mile away from each other off of Field Club Road. One is O'Hara and one is Fox Chapel. Notice how the O'Hara Road was cleared of all natural vegetation and Fox Chapel's was preserved. I could show many examples of this. Fox Chapel is woodsier.
True, but also the homes in Fox Chapel are usually more architecturally significant and not cookie cutters. You need to get a permit to cut a tree down that is more than a 3" diameter in Fox Chapel. The garbage is not curbside pick up, it is doorside, so you don't know it is garbage day in Fox Chapel since the garbage isn't out by the street. There are lots of little things Fox Chapel does that I really like. It is still in the burbs though, so not as cool as the city.

I'm all for tidy aesthetics and all, but doorside trash pickup so that people don't see trash cans on the curb is way too fussy for me.

It was just voted on a couple of months back. It is really expensive to have door service. I believe the costs of that service has tripled in the past 7 or 8 years! When I was a kid that is how the garbage was picked up everywhere. Fox Chapel has kept that old style. I personally don't care that much about it. Fox Chapel also has a dump that can be used for free by residents if you must rid something. The vote that was just held had a few options, but the two most significant were: 1. Keep it the same or 2. Cut the costs to about a half and no more dump and you can put anything you want in the trash. The Borough residents voted to keep it the same regardless of costs. I actually didn't vote, because I didn't care that much either way. I found if kind of funny though. I sort of agree, the whole thing is a little over-the-top.

That house has been for sale for eternity----years and years. I assume it's over priced because of its uniqueness and location.

Here's the link to the Allegheny County assessment website which says it's condemned and only worth 2k: http://www2.county.allegheny.pa.us/R...&SearchParcel=

By way of an update, this home recently sold. We can only hope that someone will give it the TLC that it needs. I've noticed a real uptick in renovations/ appearances along that area of Cedar recently.

I have a soft spot for mid-century modern homes, and Pittsburgh has a lot of great ones, but the Katz house in Squirrel Hill is by far my favorite.

Plush: Squirrel Hill home with lofty aspirations

I tracked down your house on Google Street View a few months ago. Your neighbor's house is pretty cool too.
