That's when you arm up and start taking shots.

Big difference. Schools weren't condoning it back then.

Kids still have to go to school the day after the Super Bowl, no?

I remember one time during the 1960 season that bro and I got an excused absence to attend a Pirates game.

That's one of the points of this 2 Hour Delay. To cut down from many people (teachers, staff, AND students) just skipping school. Their public relations official plays it safe by explaining it as safety reasons, which she makes valid points, but those probably aren't the only reasons.

True. Back then, people wouldn't put up with that. I agree, we are bringing up kids to be very soft and not prepared for what lies ahead. I believe it is all negative media driven and people don't have a lot of hope for our future. I confess if I get caught up in the negative media, I will look at the future in a pretty dim light. That being said, we are giving kids all kind of breaks due to our uncertainty of their future as we live for today and could give a crap about the future.

Ah well, it is what it is.

Doing what you can to make sure kids are well-rested for school isn't making them soft, it is making them better-educated. And the future does not belong to manly but poorly-educated people.

Making them lazy if you ask me. Lots of people can work hard and play hard all their lives. One day without rest will hurt no one. On top of that, it is showing kids they can use such a thing as an excuse. Sorry, in the real world if you are out all night and have to work the next day, there isn't an excuse for missing. If you miss enough with these excuses you will be jobless.

Sleep deprivation makes adults less productive as well. We'd be much better off economically and as a society if our attitude toward sleep deprivation was very different--many people take pride in trying to do work on very little sleep, when if at all possible they should be trying to avoid that happening.

So I'd prefer we teach kids that sleep is important, as opposed to teaching them that people who work without adequate sleep are superior in terms of morals/character.

Edit: Oh, and although it affects adults too, kids are WAY more impacted by sleep deprivation. So it would make sense to have a double standard anyway, although again I think adults would benefit too by changing their attitude toward sleep deprivation.

Teachers are required to get to work on time on Monday, however.
I say have fun Sunday night, but get your butts to school on time Monday.
It's not too much to ask.
