I was researching possible cities for my son to relocate to that don't require owning a car.

I was surprised to discover that Pittsburgh ranks 11th.

29.45% of Pittsburghers don't own cars.

I would have never guessed.

I'm surprised. I feel like a freak sometimes, not driving in Pgh.

I think that has way more to with the poverty rates in certain neighborhoods and the fact that a lot of students are also here who tend to not have students. If you take those two groups out of the equation, car ownership is a lot higher here.

I found this a bit surprising. But I guess if you factor in all of the students/poor people/old people in our area it makes a bit of sense.

A friend whose daughter recently graduated from CMU told me CMU very much discourages students from having cars. I told her that's the way it was at Pitt when I went there, but that was a long time ago.
