what's a good website to use? how are the war streets to raise a family?

Highland Park and Friendship are close to Shadyside. They are good places to be right now. Parts of Lawrenceville is also close. Northside has been struggling along, but the East End is really moving in the right direction.

There isn't a really great site for Pittsburgh house hunting. I tend to use Prudential Preferred or Howard Hanna, but more by default than anything else.

Morningside should be considered. Mexican War Street requires tiny furniture. You won't get a queen sized bed up the stairs nor through an old window.

Haha, It was definitely a challenge, but I did. Also helped a neighbor get a couch up the stairs, but we had to dismantle a railing.

Don't forget you can get two-piece queen boxsprings.

Or you could saw your box spring in half and bolt it back together (what I did on no less than two occasions).
