No way, it's part of the charm! Bloomfield is supposed to be rough around the edges and unpolished.

When I first lived in Pittsburgh 10 years ago, I moved to Bloomfield, and I loved it. A significant portion of my life could happen within the one block of Liberty between Ella and Taylor. I used to shop for CDs at Paul's, browse the DVD rentals at Dreaming Ant, get food from Thai Gourmet, and do my laundry at that laundromat. There used to be a gym nearby as well. Going a bit further afield I would drink at BBT, and get takeout from Trams and Taste of India. Couldn't think of a more convenient place.

I move to Friendship though, and stayed there for two years, then buying a house in Lawrenceville. I began to be amazed at how much everything else in Pittsburgh seemed to be changing, and how little Bloomfield seemed to be. Everything was still where it was when I moved there (besides Dreaming Ant closing, and Paul's becoming Soundcat Records). There was simply very few signs of "new Pittsburgh" to be seen.

This finally seems to be changing however. There's a yoga studio on Liberty Avenue, and several newer, more upscale dining options. Penn/Main is even more different than it was, and is starting to get a bit hopping even. I'm not sure it will ever go full-on upscale (too many junky rentals in Bloomfield for that), but it's starting to be a little less workaday than it once was.
