My wife and I might be moving to the Pittsburgh area in about a month and are looking for a place to live. We really don't know much about the area, but have good things about Pittsburgh. I would be working in Robinson Township and traveling quite a bit. We have two young daughters so good schools and a safe neighborhood is a must. Also, a neighborhood with young families would be ideal. Our price range for a house is between $250K and $300K. I have heard pretty bad things about the taxes of Allegheny County. Are they really that bad compared to Butler or Washington?

After doing a little research, Moon area seems like it might be a good fit because of the proximity to my work and the airport. I appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks!

Moon is probably the best for your price range. If you can go a little higher and prefer a quaint town center and older established neighborhood, try looking at Sewickley too.

Property taxes are high but that's because house prices are much lower so depending on what your old house in DC is worth, you shouldn't have too much of a tax shock for the county at least.
