? Butler county is the fastest growing county on our side of the state, and Pine and Richland Townships border Butler.

Hempfield Twp. = 76.8 square miles, commute = 45 minutes to an hour
Cranberry Twp. = 22.8 square miles, commute = 30 minutes or less
Mt. Lebanon = 6.06 square miles, commute = 25 minutes or less
Upper St. Clair = 9.80 square miles, commute = 30 minutes or less
Washington PA = 3.3 square miles, commute = 45 minutes or less

I would call Hempfield Twp. more of a gigantic exurb, but maybe that is just me. When you are looking at over 30 miles each way for a commute that is starting to get out there. However, I do agree that by population and maybe even land size, Hempfield is the largest "suburb" of Pittsburgh.

Washington PA is not the same as Washington County. The big growth suburb in Washington County is Peters Township. That is about 20 minutes closer to the city than Washington PA proper, and a whole lot nicer.

Garvdog

I know this and I have friends that live in Peters, this thread was about 10,000+ suburbs and Washington PA is one of those. I was simply pointing out in my last post that Hempfield is very large in terms of area and also very far from the city.

But Peters is also far. I have a friend in Peters and I hate making that drive from the city.

Hempfield is pretty weird. It could almost even be a "suburb" of Greensburg considering it completely surrounds the city and both municipalities work alongside one another when it comes to various services and other amenities such as the library and post office just to name a few. Most of Hempfield even goes by the Greensburg zip code and outsiders tend to associate the Hempfield area as Greensburg than the former. To me, Hempfield sort of reminds me of Gibsonia as it is technically composed of several different communities but goes by one identity.
