What are native Pittsburghers' opinions on drivers in their fine city? Particularly those on the Parkway East/376?

What about those who've moved to Pittsburgh from somewhere else?

No matter what place you are talking about or where you are from, everyone else's driving always sucks!

Isn't that it in a nutshell? Can we close the thread now before we get the usual crap?

Yep. Everyone thinks that they're the best driver in the world and everyone else is a maniac, so do the math.

I've lived in 5 states in different regions of the country, and I can tell you for a fact that people do drive differently in different areas of the country.

Totally agree. This topic is like the countless "weather" topics here. Perfect weather and perfect drivers do not exist ANYWHERE. You simply take the good with the bad in both cases.

I have lived in 8 states and both categories hold true in them all.

I grew up in the Detroit area. By my standards, drivers in Pittsburgh are a bit too slow and a bit too polite. And irrationally afraid of tunnels.

But it could be worse--they could be Boston drivers. Or Bombay drivers (six to one, have a dozen to the other when comparing those two).

This is likely true, but the trouble is you can't compare your observations with anyone else's measurement of driving in a given place. The only way to validate driving on the same relative scale is to observe it yourself. Everyone else's measurements will be clouded by their particular biases which won't be the same as yours.

This is true with a lot of things, but driving is especially susceptible.

I'm guessing, since your info says you're not from here, you have a specific curiosity about or beef with something you experienced when you drove through or visited, or heard something somewhere. Just spit it out.

A guy I know from southern Georgia was in Pittsburgh on business three months ago. He said the highway system sucked, but the drivers knew how to use the lanes properly.

Pittsburgh is pretty good as far as cities go to drive in. Lots of dummies merge super early when a lane is cut off and they take two lanes to block traffic. It happens a lot at the 31st street bridge were simple logic says USE BOTH LANES UNTIL MERGE POINT. No kidding, if you don't most people can't get through the traffic lights and it makes things much worse. Also, Pittsburghers drive in their pickups in the left lane when not passing. I just pass on the right, but don't like doing so. Other than that, most drivers aren't too bad. They don't wave if you let them in as much as they used to. Not as kind as they used to be about 10+ years ago, but I think that is just because of the negative hyped up media that everyone endures daily. I think it is making people crazy, but the media loves it.

I once read in one of those "lists" online that Pittsburgh drivers were the best in the world. I can't seem to find the link, but I remember it basically saying that Pittsburgh drivers are perfect in every regard and were the envy of the world.

Not sure about the basis for this, but it was on the interwebs and must be true.
