Dick's likely to join Shadyside corridor - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Surprising that Ann Taylor is leaving Shadyside. Interesting opportunity for Dick's.

Initial thought on headline is "What? It can't possibly fit over there." But the article explains how clearly it wouldn't be a standard store but testing a new format and maybe even new name. That makes a little more sense.

I'm sure AnnTaylor is leaving because the math didn't work. It says the owner tried to retain them actually. Given that the space is already rented to Dick's (or whomever), this suggests AnnTaylor's sales are just too low for the rent, unless Dick's is overpaying, which doesn't seem too likely.

BTW, what went into the Pottery Barn space? I haven't been over there in a while.

The hugely controversial Lululemon chain opened it's first Pittsburgh store where Pottery Barn used to be.

Does that mean one can buy guns and/or ammo in Shadyside now? That would blow my mind.

Nothing like back home...can walk into a Meijer at 2am on a Sunday and walk out with a gun, ammunition, pack of smokes, and a 30 pack of Strohs.

I tell people that here and it blows their mind.

There used to be drive-thru just a short drive over the border in Ohio where you get all of that without leaving your car.

What is controversial about the foremost retailer of yoga-inspired athletic apparel?

Partly political, some possibly tasteless choices in ads, etc. This blog post runs down a few on the occasion of the CEO/founder's resignation a couple months ago:

Rich, Possibly Befuddled Lululemon Founder Chip Wilson Resigns After Series of Controversies

(Found with a search. Didn't remember them myself.)
