Hello all, two requests from me today. We are looking at getting into a larger home and I need your thoughts/opinions/experience......

1. What are your thoughts/feelings on Pitcairn?

2. Anyone have a good rec for home inspections that are high quality but still within a reasonable range? From looking at websites it seems that $300-$400 is the going rate.

Thanks in advance!!!

Pitcairn is basically the remnants of an old railroad town. It is a bit run down in places and gritty, but I don't see it as a particularly dangerous place. It depends on if you are talking Pitcairn proper or the outlying areas.

As far as home inspectors I always recommend aahomeinspec:

aaHomeInspec

The do great work - one of them is a structural engineer and the other is an electrical engineer.

Pitcairn is a decent, but not particularly vibrant, neighborhood. There are a lot of great home values over there.

Pitcairn has certainly seen better times, when Westinghouse and US Steel cut back, things declined. They recently installed cameras on Broadway to help control the crime. Sadly, the elementary school will no doubt be closed.

If you are determined to buy there, I would advise 6th Street and higher, aka The Hill, still some pride of ownership there.

Right now too much Section 8, white trash, and unemployed people.

Pitcairn isn't a particularly attractive town, but I think its in the Gateway School District which people like better than East Allegheny which is the district for many of the other depressed towns in the Turtle Creek valley.

I was satisfied and got a complete written report on the property when I hired Rodney Harkness to do my home inspection 4 years ago.
