Hello Everyone:

I just moved to Bethel Park from the Cleveland suburbs about 4 months ago. This Wednesday I have to be at the Allegheny County Law Library (near Duquesne) at around noon for a work assignment. Instead of going by car and having to waste money on parking, I decided to take my first ride on "The T". Can someone please tell me how long it would take from Bethel Park(Pebble Creek/Sarah St. Stop) to Downtown? Any suggestions or advice?

Thank you.

The Allegheny County Law Library is in the City County Bldg at Forbes and Grant.

It takes about 40 minutes and get off at Steel Plaza, walk two blocks. south.

Please be aware you have to go through a metal detector to enter the building.

This library is open to the general public, and the 60'ish homeless looking guy that hangs there isn't really homeless at all, he lives on the North Side and is actually personable.

Getting there is simple. As long as you walk to the platform that says "to Pittsburgh" any train you get on will be heading downtown and you only need to get off at steel plaza station. Getting back can be tricky. Make sure you get on the library train, otherwise you could get on the wrong one and end up at South Hills Village mall or something.

I heard a rumor that he either attended Berkeley or spent some time there in the 1960's.

I know so many people who have made that mistake their first time taking the T out of town. It used to be as simple as L=Library and S=SHV although I'm not very familiar with the color format.

Also, if your stop is a low-level stop, make sure you board the FIRST car on your way back or else you won't be able to get off. (If you're traveling during non-peak hours, there is only one car and this won't be an issue)

It's not too hard to follow:
  • Blue Line goes to Library or South Hills Village via Overbrook
  • Red Line goes to Overbrook Junction and occasionally South Hills Village via Beechview
