A buddy in Columbus Ohio said in that city they celebrated as if Ohio State had just won a major football game. High street was packed and students were jumping into a famous lake known for celebration jump ins following big OSU wins.

Bin Laden is dead, he was a horrible individual profiting in death under the guise of religion. His death will in no way end terrorist attacks however his death is nothing but a positive event and anyone politicizing the event in any way needs to have their head examined.

Also, a big Congratulations to each and every US soldier, airman, seaman, marine, intelligence officer, analyst, diplomat, president, and those of our allies whose work for the past 10 years have made ridding the world of a perveyor of mass murder possible.

I think its wrong for GOD-FEARING "Christians" to celebrate the death of a person, no matter what they have been accused of. All these celebratory reactions, to this entire ordeal, is quite odd to me.

Does that leave athiests and other non-christian religious people off the hook then and thus allowed to celebrate the exit of an evil human being from the world?

Nah, I'm not celebrating either, and I'm not god-fearing. It's a good milestone to have finally gotten bin Laden, don't get me wrong, but it's not for celebrating. Honestly, I don't think it'll change much of anything.

I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about "Christians". I said what I said because of the principle this country was founded on... which is a "Christian" belief system... Proverbs 24:17 "Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles"....That is all and that will be my last comment about it as not to 'hijack' this thread.

There is a line going around, attributable to various sources:

"I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."

I think this would apply for me. Not into hate-mongering, but this tool had it coming, and then some...

I'm not a God-fearing Christian either. Can't say I'm personally celebrating though.

I would have definitely let my son celebrate. He has a right to his own opinions.

I was just trying to find a way for him to celebate without waking up the neighbors.

There is an element of justice in all this but I also wanted bin laden to be stopped and I think this was the only way to do it.

Now muslim clerics are complaining bin laden's burial at sea was a violation of Islamic practices. Only if the death occurred on a ship, far out to sea, can a muslim be buried at sea. They said he should be buried on land with this head pointed toward Mecca. Apparently the clerics take this as a slight against Islam rather than bin laden.

The US says that he had to be buried within 24 hours and they didn't think they could find a country to take the body. I really don't buy that as I think many countries would bury the body. But the US also didn't want it to become a shrine and I agree with that.
