Greetings everyone.

I was hoping to gain as much insight as possible from you knowledgeable folks regarding the redundant subject of making the move to Pittsburgh sometime in the next few months.

More than likely, I'll be arriving in town sans employment with only the money I have saved up to find a place to live. I've been scouring Craigslist almost daily in hopes of coming across a shared apartment for the time being. Is this a wise approach?

I would appreciate any advice, anecdotes, questions or criticisms.

Many thanks,
megahan8

It's always best to have employment lined up before you move anywhere. Although the economy in Pittsburgh didn't tank completely like many other regions, things are still a bit slow employment-wise. Of course, it all depends on what your field is - some sectors are hiring like gangbusters and others aren't.

Pittsburgh is a nice place to live but why are you coming with no job or place to live?

Craigslist for roommates can work out okay, but it can be very sketchy too. Be really careful and have high suspicion for your personal and financial safety.

Thanks for the input, Bong477. Trust me, I'm trying to make this transition as smooth as possible - if I can establish both a place to stay and a job prior to getting there, I will certainly jump at the chance. I suppose my post is based on a worst-case-scenario type-setting because I'm so determined to move there.

I am realistically-wary when it comes to Craigslist and the myriad scams and schemes perpetrated on an unsuspecting, trusting populace (typical last words), so your advice will be taken to heart.

Thanks, Geeo. I'm trying to reach out to any contacts that I know in the area that could assist me with a possible foot in the door somewhere in order to get myself established.
