There are three designations: city, federal, and PHLF, which is really just an award/plaque/honor. It has no affiliation with the state.

PHLF is Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation. It is a private, non-profit preservation group.

I wish you luck... A good portion of this city needs the designation!

I live in an area that PHLF designated as historic, Hamnett Place - it has not done anything significant where people can't do what they want to their homes. However, it does have an effect on how many houses the borough can tear down. They must be aware of the designation.

I heard back from PHLF today! I have very promising news. They said the nomination was "well documented" and that the "photo coverage is excellent." It will be "presented later this year to the committee for consideration."

Very cool! I hope it leads to something and isn't just a pat on the back. Not that you don't deserve the pat on the back--your photo coverage is indeed excellent. Did they give any clue when later will be?

No, but the committee meets once a year to make decisions on historic nominations. Thanks, Calladium!

I realize it has no formal or legal status. I'm just trying to get some recognition for a neighborhood that really gets none at all.
