In order to ensure the Parking Authority will allot the revenue received from the increase in meter rates, the mayor was supposed to go to the Parking Authority and renegotiate the cooperation agreement, which he has yet to do.

From the article:

Quote:
Terrica Jones, senior sport, arts and entertainment management major, who commutes to Point Park from West Mifflin usually by bus, but sometimes uses on-street parking, wishes the university would help commuters more.

"I think it's ridiculous. As students, I think we shouldn't have to pay for parking. We go to school here and pay all of this tuition, we should have free parking or discounted parking," Jones said on Monday, Aug. 29 in the Point Cafe.
I can't think of any urban university that would eat parking costs for students. That's unrealistic.

I can't think of an urban university which is in a comparable city that has such a high cost of on-street parking and onerous enforcement hours. As expected, this is just hurting the people who can least afford it and it is driving business out of the city. All of that because the city leaders cannot manage the financial affairs of the city.

On the flip side of that, a parking permit for Pitt lots costs over $700 dollars a semester.

Yeah indeed, costs of attending Pitt are out-of-whack altogether from what I can tell.

Well, the going rate for a regular leased spot in Oakland is $150 - $200 a month, so it's not actually a rip off. It's expensive, but it is in line with the market in Oakland.

At my school (Ohio U), the leases weren't much but they wouldn't even let you have a car on campus until Junior year.
