I'm a huge fan of walking, and I've been wondering how the various neighborhoods are for walking at night. Say it's 10 p.m. and you want to walk to a local restaurant or pub. Would you feel safe walking? How about for talking a longer walk (walking a dog for a mile or so, for example).

Squirrel Hill
Shadyside
Oakland (not sure about the part south of the Boulevard of the Allies, i.e., South South Oakland)
not East Liberty
not Friendship

These are really the only neighborhoods I know.

I have no problem walking at night in Lawrenceville where I live now, or previously when I lived on the South Side.

I would have no problems walking almost anywhere in the entire county. The only place that I've ever had issues was the North Side. Freakin' scary. Lincoln-Larimer was scary too. Not because of the people, but because of all the dogs, and it's very dark there. Not many street lights in a lot of neighborhoods around there. I swear I heard like 50 dogs barking every street I walked down. Thankfully, none attacked me, but it worried me. Personally, I wouldn't have any problems walking through any part of Oakland. Usually, there are a fair amount of drunk, moronic college students hanging out on their porch so if you yell someone will hear you. Also, carry some mace with you, or a taser.

I would be easier to list the places I wouldn't feel comfortable.
