Here is the Pop City article:

Zeke's Coffee opens small-batch roastery in East Liberty

The website for the Pittsburgh franchise:

Zeke's Coffee | A small batch roastery in the 'Burgh

The Baltimore store:

The gallery was particularly fun:

6012 Penn Avenue is the "Beauty Shoppe" building in this streetview:

Anyway, seems like a nice addition to the neighborhood.

Hopefully they give it a fresh coat of paint on the outside first.

it's kind of amazing that this is the first business of this type to open in a storefront on the stretch of penn enclosed by penn circle. the gentrification has spread pretty much incrementally out from whole foods... it just seems weird to me that businesses would have opened on that weird, inhospitable stretch of penn circle between highland and penn before they would open in that nice little business district area.

Hard to find on the map. What is located in the "stretch" you're talking about?

I assume that is a reference to where Kelly's and such are.

Not sure what the other person meant, but to me the nicest part of East Liberty is on Penn Avenue. The sidewalks are huge and that area would be very conducive to nice cafes with outdoor seating. Of course the clientele would have to probably change a little for safety reasons. I don't think people would want to sit outside and eat while someone gets robbed at gunpoint. Maybe someday we will see some cafes open there.

The street view showed it's a few doors down from CVS

Personally, I tend to see that whole area around the church (extending roughly a couple blocks in all directions) as a single district.

Interesting. I work in East Liberty, and since my partner lives just over the border in Shadyside we patronize businesses very frequently in East Liberty. We have yet to see someone getting robbed at gunpoint. I realize that East Liberty has had a very tough struggle along the lines of the Hill District and Homewood, but even in just the short six months I've lived here I've noticed improvement in that neighborhood.
