Another random topic. This is TERRIFYING.

How Google's New Face Recognition Tech Could Change The Web's Future | Fast Company

I read that they are testing this face recognition technology and that a complete stranger can take a photo of you and use this technology to find out any information about you.

It's all made out of straws, caps, squeeze bottles, plastic charms--anything I happen to find that looks like it might become a building or a bridge. Cool! Thanks for sharing pictures! I need a new hobby.

I remember hearing something about that a month ago. There was a big fuss about FB planning to make this available. I'm glad there aren't any pictures of me on the web. But I doubt any strangers would be inspired to take my picture and research me when they can just introduce themselves. I'm an open book IRL.

I don't know if anyone watches Warehouse 13 on Syfy (it's a silly summer show) but last night's episode was set in Pittsburgh. They mentioned the Ft. Pitt Bridge, placed an observatory on Mt. Washington, and renamed PNC Park. The best joke was that the main dude loves Pittsburgh because "they put fries on their nachos."

We watch WH13, but on DVR so we haven't seen the episode yet. Sounds fun!

I can't find the thread where we were discussing building names, but last night on my drive home from work the newsreader on WDUQ kept referring to an incident at "the UPMC building." And it confused me for a second, because aren't there a lot of UPMC buildings? Turns out she meant the USX Tower, which I would never call the UPMC building.

The US Steel Tower. Hasn't been USX in several years. Drove me nuts too, although to be fair I am guessing she is just reading what the Navtec Traffic report says. Didn't have the presence of mind to change it; she's been there a while and likely knows the difference.

I was thinking of writing Navtec and telling them hey the name of the building didn't change.

That episode was painful. Overall.

For obvious reasons, I thought today was a good day to resurrect this thread.
