I agree bigger isn't always better, but the ranches they tore down weren't special IMHO.

Now when Ganassi bought O'Reilly's home for 2.4 million and tore it down, I got sick to my stomach, but the home he built is nice. I just loved that old tutor. Oh well, what can anyone do? Sometimes it can be a bit disgusting. He does pay over $30K a year in taxes.

His home is assessed at 3.5. Probably paying more than that. Close to 80,000? Probably cost him at least 10 million to build so it is still under assessed.

Goodness, I do remember seeing that. Yes, at 3.5 million. He is paying almost 100K a year in tax. No problem!

County 4.69 = 4,690 per million
Fox Chapel 2.4 = 2,400 per million
School 21.26 = 21,260 per million
Total per million 28,350
Ouch! Oh yeah, our school taxes are going up again.

If he was paying on 10 million as you suggest, it would only be around $283,500 a year. Pennies really.

The problem is youngsters from the city coming to the suburbs and causing problems. These problems are almost never caused by suburban kids (even Penn Hills knuckle-heads are civilized enough to not shoot at the wave pool). Somewhere along the line, Wilkinsburg, East Hills, East Liberty, Homewood etc kids started coming East for recreation. Just a few weeks ago they arrested two East Hills idiots for vandalizing the concession stand.

This is a socio-economic problem and easily solved by socio-economic means... Charge an $11 one-time admission fee, or for tax paying suburbanites a $70 season pass... problem solved

It looked crowded. I do think they should up the price. Of course the parking lot will be unaffected by the price increase. Maybe they need to charge to get close to the pool? It is sad that people can't just go to the damn wave pool and enjoy the day!

Kennywood had the same problem, that's why they went to a ride all day pass only to get into the park. It seemed to have solve the problems they were having.

Well typically outside "da hood," in places like Downtown, Strip District clubs, Kennywood nieghborhood/gang alligence rivalry continues to play out (in fights) regardless of the distance between the places where the feuding party's live in... For example: Homewood vs McKeesport, Clairton vs Penn Hills, Hazelwood vs East Hills, (what I can remember seeing @ Keenywood) or in this case Braddock vs Wilkinsburg there may be a fight... What's sad is that the people 40% of the time aren't gang members but people who know people who've been killed by the "other side."

Do you really think that a kid who can buy a 300 dollar brand new glock cannot afford that admission? There are economically disadvantaged kids and there are economically disadvantaged kids who hustle drugs and can afford everything that a middle/ upper middle class family can. Pittsburgh residents pay county taxes as well. What about the struggling family with good kids? Price them out of the park as well?

The rich drug dealer is an urban myth (no doubt perpetuated by rap music). The reality is that the overwhelming majority of these knuckle-head dealers are earning Burger King wages or below. The people that run an entire neighborhood can earn 6 figures and the people even higher can be millionaires. Pittsburgh probably has 7 or 8 people earning 6 figures and 1 millionaire. Either way, you can be sure that no one smart enough to earn 6 figures+ is stupid enough to shoot up a wave pool. These are fatherless 16 year old punks, not savvy street-wise-hustlers managing an illegal drug business with 35 employees...

Of course the everyday knuckleheads can't afford admission... You should read Freakonomics by Stephen D. Levitt, He details the drug game from a business structural perspective.

Either way, there are dozens of big-city metros that have dealt with similar issues. This is a well understood problem with a well understood solution. Just price out the riff-raff.

Now are kidding me... The 19-24yr old street level crack dealers in the gangs make at least 300$$$ a day... There by NO MEANS millionaires, but thousands of drug/pimp/stolen car/dog fighting/street racing/gangsta rap money moves through the dirty hands of dealers in a good week (in most hoods). How else can they afford guns, cars, fancy shoes, two 4G cell phones, and all the other novelties???

In Housing Projects like: Arlington Heights, Garfield Heights, Wiliner Drive, Park Hill Drive, Penn Avenue Buildings, Molher Projects, Greenway Projects, BroadHead Monor, Northview Heights, Allegheny Dwellings, Adison Terrace, Reed Roberts, or Chuancey Drive where half of the crack dealers are also in gangsta rap music videos and get double the sales of their counter parts who deal off a bad block... The gang member drug dealers ain't kingpins or even close to being millionaires but there not poor... That's why the business has been going on since the late 80's!

Dude, I was in high school once too. From you're vantage point I know this all looks like some romantic, wild-west, Al-capone, Frank-Lucas type lifestyle. The reality is much sadder. These kids are used, abused, exploited, and shipped to a funeral home (or prison if they're lucky).

I'm sure you've see the wire, so you know these street thugs don't get "points on the package". They don't get a percentage? Do KFC workers get a percentage of burgers sold? No. These knuckle-heads collect $5 bills and hand over a product.. that's it... It's no different, and worth no more than a Wendy's wage. "Points on the package" don't come until your a manager... It's basic economics, no business has ever succeeded by paying their entry level employees 100x what their worth. And be sure, drugs are a business.

Go to college, get a real job and earn real money. There's a reason all the (rich according to rap albums) thugs have two thousand dollar cars with rims (http://www.dragtimes.com/classifieds-viewer.php?itemID=200594740956 - broken link). That's less than a lot of mortgages... It's not real, so stop fantasizing and go study.

And so we don't get off topic. What worked for Kennywood will work for Boyce... Price then out!
